SABZEVAR is a town located on the northwestern part of the province of Khorassan, in northeastern Iran. The pattern and colors used in most Sabzevar rugs are very similar to those of the carpets woven in the holy city of Mashad. A central medallion is traditionally dominant in Sabzevars. Rich burgundy is most often used as the field color with accents of blue and green throughout. SABZEVAR Carpet Properties: Visibility: SABZEVAR rugs and carpets are characterized by curvilinear patterns. The main feature that distinguishes SABZEVAR rugs and carpets from others in this region is a rounded medallion. I should also mention that there is great similarity between SABZEVAR rugs and carpets and those produced in MASHAD. You can also find HERATI designs in older SABZEVAR rugs and carpets. Quality: SABZEVAR rugs and carpets are of excellent quality. Size & Shapes: SABZEVAR rugs and carpets come in different sizes, but the majority of them are mid-size (4 x 6 to 8 x 10 feet). You can also find large rugs up to 10 x 18 feet. Color: Dark red, blue, and khaki are the main colors used in SABZEVAR rugs and carpets. There are other colors such as soft green and brown found in newer carpets. Texture: Soft wool; thin, tight pile. Foundation: Warps is mostly cotton; wefts is either cotton or wool. They are therefore in high demand and are more costly than many other carpets. Where is SABZEVAR(Bayhagh)? SABZEVAR The desert city of Sabzevar was previously called Bayhagh. Located 70 km from MASHAD and 654 km (406 Miles)from TEHRAN, Sabzevar is a historical city and has a tourist guest house. Remaining from the time when the city was still called Bayhagh are Pamenar Mosque of the twelfth century and Jami Mosque and Khosrowgerd Minaret of the l3th century. The tomb of Haj Molla Hadi Sabzevari is also in this city. Old woman SABZEVAR SABZEVAR is composed of two parts, a mountainous area and a plains area. The weather is warm in the plains, but mild in the mountains. In the Islamic Period, Bayhagh State had two cities, Sabzevar and Khosrowgerd. These cities were completely ruined after an attack by Mongols. In 1368 CE, Sabzevar was a place of refuge and the capital city of the Sarbedaran movement against the Arab occupation, which won it the name of "Darolmomenin" (City Of Believers). In the period of the Ozbakans, this city was again ruined, but developed once more in the Safavid Dynasty. In the last few decades, SABZEVAR has flourished.
