Hamadan

A large city in the central west of Iran -which also happens to be the chief city of the province with the same name - known for its famous caves, the rugs woven in this area come in many designs ranging from the Herati design to geometrical shapes or garden designs with flowers. The colors used also have a wide range covering almost the entire spectrum used in rugs depending on the designs. Carpet weaving is one of the main sources of income for people of this area. There is both industrial and tribal weaving of carpets coming from this area. The Hamadan carpets have a special weave of their own using a heavy single weft of cotton between Turkish knots which has come to be known as the Hamadan weave.
